Make A Hunt — Terms of Use & EULA
Effective date: June 11, 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Make A Hunt mobile app and related services (together, "the app"), provided by GrassEqual ("we", "us", "our"). These Terms also constitute the end-user license agreement ("EULA") for the app. By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle data.
Who can use Make A Hunt
The app is intended for adults — parents, teachers, event planners, and party hosts — to build and run scavenger hunts, including hunts meant for children to play. You must be at least the age of majority where you live to create, manage, or purchase a subscription. Children may play hunts under the supervision of a responsible adult, but the app is not directed to children as its users and is not intended for them to set up or buy anything.
Your use of the app
The app does not require you to create an account, and your hunts, photos, players, and history are stored on your device — except when you use the app's online features (publishing a hunt online, joining one by code, and the shared scoreboard), which upload content to our servers as described in "Online hunts and the scoreboard" below. You are responsible for the device you use, for keeping your content backed up (for example by exporting hunts), and for any data lost if you delete the app or lose the device. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose, subject to these Terms.
Your content and responsibilities
You keep ownership of the hunts, photos, clues, descriptions, and other content you create in the app ("Your Content"). You are solely responsible for Your Content and for how you use the app, and you agree that:
- You have the right to use any photos, names, and other material you add — including the necessary permission from anyone shown in a photo, or from a property owner where relevant.
- You will not use the app to create or share content that is unlawful, infringing, harmful, harassing, hateful, deceptive, or that violates anyone's privacy or rights.
- When you run a location-based (geofenced) hunt, you and your players will do so safely and lawfully, respecting private property, traffic, and local rules. You are responsible for choosing safe stops and for the conduct of your hunt.
- You will respect the safety and wellbeing of children and other participants in any hunt you run.
Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the app. In particular, you will not: reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code except where the law permits; interfere with or disrupt the app or the services it relies on; attempt to circumvent usage limits, metering, or paywalls; use automated means to abuse the AI features or generate excessive requests; resell or commercially exploit the app except as expressly permitted; or use the app to break any law. We may suspend or limit access that we reasonably believe abuses the app or its AI or location services.
AI-generated content
The app uses artificial intelligence to help you generate clues, draft a whole hunt from a short brief, suggest descriptions, and check photos during play. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or unexpected, and AI photo verification may sometimes pass or fail a photo incorrectly. AI features are provided on an "as is" basis as a creative aid — you are responsible for reviewing and editing AI-generated content before you use or share it, and for deciding whether a hunt is appropriate and safe. AI output is not professional, legal, safety, or navigational advice. To run these features, AI requests are processed through our own server and an AI provider; see the Privacy Policy for details.
Sharing and importing hunts
You can export a hunt as a .hunt file and share it through any channel you choose, and you can import hunts others send you. You are responsible for what you share and for obtaining any permissions needed to share it. Hunts you import from other people are third-party content that we do not create, review, or endorse; treat imported hunts as you would any file from another person, and only run one if you trust its source. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or safety of hunts created or shared by other users.
Online hunts and the scoreboard
The app also lets you play hunts online. When you publish a hunt online, that hunt — including its stops, clues, settings, and photos — is uploaded to and hosted on our servers and given a short share code (and a QR code). Anyone who has the code can download and play the hunt. A share code is a convenience for sharing, not a security or access control, so only publish content you have the right to share and do not publish anything you would not want others to be able to access. You can stop sharing a published hunt by unpublishing it.
When you join or play an online hunt, information about your play is uploaded to our servers and shown to the host and to other players on the shared scoreboard — including the player name and avatar you choose, your progress, times, attempts, score, and any proof photos you submit. Choose player names and avatars accordingly, and do not submit photos or information you would not want shared. Because hunts may be played by children, the person running a hunt is responsible for what player identities and photos are uploaded on a child's behalf.
- Hunts you join by code are third-party content created by other users — we do not create, review, or endorse them; treat them as you would any hunt from another person, and only play one if you trust its source.
- Online features rely on our servers and your internet connection. We do not guarantee that they will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, and the number of players who can join a single online hunt — along with other online limits — depends on your plan.
- We may remove or disable any online hunt, share code, run, or content that we reasonably believe violates these Terms or is unlawful, harmful, or infringing.
Online play uses an anonymous device identity rather than a personal account. How we handle the data you upload for online hunts and the scoreboard is described in our Privacy Policy.
Subscriptions, billing, and renewals
The app is free to install and offers optional paid subscriptions (such as "Plus") that raise usage limits and unlock additional features. Subscriptions are sold and processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and your purchase is also subject to that store's terms. Our billing partner, RevenueCat, manages which features your subscription unlocks.
- Subscriptions are billed in advance and renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- You manage, change, or cancel a subscription through your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues until the end of the current paid period.
- Prices, plans, and the features within each plan may change over time. We will not change the price of a period you have already paid for; changes apply going forward.
- Refunds are handled by the app store under its policies. We do not separately process payments or store your payment-card details.
Monthly AI allowances (for clue and hunt generation, and AI photo verification) reset on a recurring monthly basis. Reaching an allowance does not block core building or play — for example, a photo stop simply keeps the photo as a memento — it only pauses the metered AI feature until the allowance resets or you upgrade.
Intellectual property
The app itself — including its software, design, built-in themes, text, graphics, and the Make A Hunt and GrassEqual names and logos — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right in our branding or the app beyond the limited license to use it. Your Content remains yours; by using AI features you allow us and our providers to process the inputs you submit solely to produce and return your result, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Third-party services
The app relies on third-party services to provide certain features, including an AI provider (for clue and hunt generation and photo verification), the Apple App Store and Google Play (for downloads and payments), RevenueCat (for subscription management), and an analytics provider (only if you opt in). Your use of those features may also be subject to the respective third party's terms and policies, and we are not responsible for third-party services.
App Store and EULA terms
These Terms are the end-user license agreement between you and GrassEqual only, and not with Apple Inc. ("Apple") or Google. When you obtain the app through the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply, and they prevail over any conflicting term above to the extent required by Apple:
- Parties. This EULA is concluded between you and GrassEqual alone. GrassEqual, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Scope of license. The license granted to you is a non-transferable license to use the app on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the app may be accessed and used by other accounts associated with you via Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
- Maintenance and support. GrassEqual is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the app. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services for the app.
- Warranty. GrassEqual is solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app.
- Claims. GrassEqual, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the app or your possession and use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement, claims under consumer-protection or similar legislation, and intellectual- property claims.
- Intellectual property. In the event of any third-party claim that the app or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual-property rights, GrassEqual, not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.
- Legal compliance. You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Third-party terms. You must comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this EULA, and upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce this EULA against you as a third-party beneficiary.
- Contact. Any questions, complaints, or claims about the app should be directed to GrassEqual at [email protected].
Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, that AI output will be accurate, or that location features will be precise. You use the app, run hunts, and rely on AI output at your own discretion and risk.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, GrassEqual will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the app — including injuries, property damage, or disputes that occur while running or playing a hunt. To the extent we are found liable despite the above, our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or, if you paid nothing, to CAD $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless GrassEqual from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of Your Content, your use of the app, a hunt you create or run, or your breach of these Terms or of anyone's rights.
Termination
You may stop using the app at any time and delete it, which removes its local data from your device. We may suspend or terminate access to the app or its services if you breach these Terms or misuse the app, or if we discontinue the app. Sections that by their nature should survive — including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification — continue to apply after termination.
Changes to the app and these Terms
We may update the app and these Terms as the product evolves. The updated Terms will be posted at this URL with a new effective date, and material changes will be communicated through the app where appropriate. Your continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in Alberta, Canada will have jurisdiction over any dispute, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
